Information from “McCaul Family Scotland” compiled in 1991 by Marcia Barbara (Barbara) McCaul, Canada (b. 1932, d. 2002). Barbara was the great-great grandaughter of Gilbert McCaul (b. 1765) and Janet McFarlan (b. 1770). Brian of nzolivers.com is the great-great-great grandson of Gilbert and Janet.

Barbara writes, “Although final proof has not been established, it is believed that Andrew McCAUL (McCall) and Janet McIlmorrow (M'Ilmorrow) are the parents of Gilbert McCAUL (McCall) christened 26 May, 1765 (?or 28 May 1765) in Colmonell Parish, of Bethamy or Belhamy (hard to read.) Although the spelling in Parish Registers is McCall rather than McCAUL, this is not of too much significance at that date. It should be noted that Gilbert had children named "Andrew" and "Janet" which fit into the traditional Scottish naming pattern”.
