Information from “McCaul Family Scotland” compiled in 1991 by Marcia Barbara (Barbara) McCaul, Canada (b. 1932, d. 2002). Barbara was the great-great grandaughter of Gilbert McCaul (b. 1765) and Janet McFarlan (b. 1770). Brian of nzolivers.com is the great-great-great grandson of Gilbert and Janet.

Barbara writes, “Tombstone in Girvan Cemetery 1766 - in very good condition. ?Perhaps restored by a member of the family at some point. "Laglartrie" now known as "Liglartrie" is the name of a farm about twenty miles south-west of Girvan near a village called Pinwherry”.
Barbara writes, ”Here lyes the corps of Wm. McCAULl in Laglartrie who d. 9.8.1764 75 likewise his wife Janet Ross who d. 17.11.1763 63, by his sons Andrew, Gilbert and John McCAULs, 1766. (west side) winged soul, skull, crossed bones and hourglass."
[Note: the number 75 following date of death, and 63 following date of death for his wife presumably indicates their age at time of death.]
