In an email of 4th August 2012 from Joy’s grandaughter, Anita Nixon, Anita writes, “Nana is not the greatest, she has early onsets of dementia.. She lives at the home with Uncle Noel [Joy’s son] as grandad is now in the Taupaki rest home”.

NIXON, Margaret Joy (Joy) Passed away peacefully at home, aged 88 years, on February 28 2014. Dearly beloved Wife of Colin, for 65 years. Dearly loved Mother and Mother in Law of John and Lynette, Noel, Rex and Delwyn, and the late Geoffrey. Cherished Nana of Trevor, Anita, Lisa, Sheree, Andre and the late Kerry. Loved Great Nana of Elle, Lola, Jaimiee, Sienna, Jack and Alexis. Rest in Peace Mum. Many thanks to Hospice West Auckland. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice West Auckland would be appreciated and may be left at the Chapel. Joy's farewell will be held in the Main Chapel of the Morrison Funeral Home, 220 Universal Drive, Henderson on Thursday 6 March 2014 at 10:00 am, followed by interment at the Kumeu Cemetery, Kumeu. All communications to the Nixon Family c/- the above Funeral Home.

Joy was very interested in genealogy and had carried out extensive research into the Oliver, Woolford and Philpot families. Brian of nzolivers.com was very appreciative that Joy allowed him to scan various papers and is extremely grateful for confirming the identity of their great-grandfather, Samuel Oliver b.1833, Joy holding the same photo that David Lloyd (also a great grandchild of Samuel) had earlier shared with Brian. And, Joy had a photo of their great-grandmother Jessie Oliver (nee Higgie), Samuel’s wife, that Brian had never seen.
