Information from Cynthia Glover (nee Coleman), whose great-great-grandfather was William Samuel Allen b.1843. (William's sister, Martha Allen, married Charles Oliver, youngest son of James and Ruth Oliver).

“Sir Edward Stanhope, obit. 6/6/1511, of Rampton and Houghton, was a principal commander of the army that beat Simnel's followers, at Stoke, in 1487. Ten years later, Sir Edward Stanhope fought against the Cornish rebels at Blackheath, and was knighted on the field of battle. In 1502, he was Steward of Wakefield and Constable of Sandale Castle, in the county of York. Like his predecessors, he was also Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. On the 4th. October, 1509, he 'imparked 240 acres at Houghton by enclosing them with a paling for the purpose of rearing wild animals'”.
