The “Hamblyn Family History” states that Charles and Mary and family set up home a mile from the Bell Block Stockade, and a half-a-mile from a friendly native Pa at Waiwakaiho. The couples home is listed as having been burnt down by the Maoris on the 6th of April, 1861. It is believed Charles Hamblyn owned land from the sand hills to Devon Road (86 acres).
