Mads Jepsen Lerche (about 1,560 in Havndrup in Hellerup Sogn - 1608 in Nyborg ) was mayor, alderman, merchant and customs officer in Nyborg.

Lerche was 1584 councilman in Nyborg. In 1588 he was churchwarden at Vor Frue Kirke in Nyborg . From 1600 he was mayor of Nyborg and built in 1601 the remaining Mads Lerches Yard in King Street , which today is used by Østfyns Museums' department Mayor farm.

Son of a farmer Lerche had made his fortune in grain trade and grain exports. He also had a small merchant fleet with which he engaged in trade in Norwegian timber in France and Spain, where he imported wine and salt to Nyborg. As mayor, he had a monopoly on all liquor store in Nyborg.

Mads Lerche was married Sidsel Knudsdatter (1574 - 1648), who is the ancestress of the Lerche. By Mads Lerches death took his son Jacob Lerche (1590 - 1658) both farm and mayor. Mads Lerche is buried aisle of the Church of Our Lady, where there is also an epitaph (memorial plaque) about Mads Lerche and his first wife Maren Jakob daughter of his second hustru Sidsel Knudsdatter and their combined eight children.
