History of MG McCaul Limited
http://mccaul.co.nz/history.html
The company started in 1947 by M.G McCaul as a better end women’s coat and sportswear manufacturer.

In the 1960’s he started to specialise in very high end skirts, jackets and pants, made from top quality worsteds and woollens that were produced by some of the world’s top mills in the U.K, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.

In 1966 McCauls became NZ’s second registered exporter. Over the next few years the company opened over 80 accounts across Australia and 15 accounts on the west coast of America and Canada.

In 1969 M.G McCaul died and his son Douglas decided to move the company away from manufacturing in NZ and diversify into agency selling and direct importing mainly from China and Australia. He felt this was the right move as manufacturing in NZ was becoming unviable in both expense and lack of qualified staff. This move has proven to be the right one.

In 2004 Tim joined the company as a salesman and in 2005, along with his wife Ingrid, purchased a 50% shareholding in McCauls. That same year the company moved from its premises in Cashel St to its new and current larger site in Riccarton. The company then started to grow its import side, specialising in Australian owned brands produced in China.

To ensure its big brand agencies such as adidas eyewear & Milleni handbags are well serviced & maintained, McCauls runs a high number of selling cycles throughout the year. This means there are McCauls reps in almost every town across NZ on a regular basis. The company’s clients, instead of being called on only during the traditional indent seasons, have the ability to utilise our reps for more in-season buying. This has been pivotal in McCauls’ continuing growth.

In July 2008 Tim and Ingrid [Willis] purchased the remainder of the shares in McCauls, and now own the company outright. Their aim is to continue building on the good name that McCauls has in the apparel industry while modernising the systems to be able to offer their clients the best service possible.
