Name from the “Devis Family Tree” kindly shared by Julie Bourke (nee McColl) received in the post on 3 May 2017. This information is based on original research, including that of Wills, by Linda Burge and Julie Bourke. Linda is the great-great-granddaughter of Emma Frances Devis b. 1814. Julie is the great-great-granddaughter of Emma Frances Devis.
Margaret Sweeney in an Ancestry message dated 12 October 2017 writes, “I also have found that the eldest son [of John Gamble], John Henry Gamble, went to Ireland and set up a grocery provisions business at units 5-6 Morrisons Quay, Cork. I think also he was involved in Politics in some way from newspaper articles I have read).
Margaret Sweeney is the x3-great granddaughter of Sidney Bell Devis (b.1816). Brian of nzolivers.com is a x3-great grandson of Emma Frances Devis (b.1814), sister of Sidney Bell Devis.
In a subsequent Ancestry message dated 29 October 2017, Margaret gives the second name of “Henry” and writes, “John Henry Gamble took the patents [from the partnership in England involving his father ‘Donkin, Hall and Gamble’] to Cork in Ireland and set up a factory there in Morrisons Quay producing tinned foods”.
Year of birth [1804] and death from the hand-drawn “Gamble Pedigree” tree received from Caroline Swart in an email dated 23 May 2018. Caroline is a x3-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Devis (b.1777). Brian of nzolivers.com is a x4-great grandson of Elizabeth’s brother, Henry Devis (b.1778).
Full date of birth, “John H Gamble Dec 13 1803“, from Image 4 of the Devis Family Bible sent by Derek Dillon in an email dated 16 March 2018. Derek had copied the Bible pages, while visiting some cousins in England circa 1988. The Bible had been passed down through the Devis, Gibson and Dillon families. Derek is the x3-great grandson of Hannah Barlow (b.1759) and her second husband, David Gibson. (Hannah Barlow remarried after the death of first husband Henry Devis b.1750).
