Christening given as “18 August 1815” at “Bermondsey, London, England” as per a search results sheet received from Caroline Swart in an email dated 23 May 2018.

Extract from a paper titled, “The Gamble Family”, received from Caroline in an email dated 23 May 2018.
“Francis entered Christ’s Hospital (The Blue Coast School) at the tender age of seven years, having been admitted from St. Magdelan Church Bermondsey, Surrey on March 26th 1817. I can’t help thinking that John Gamble, the father may have died about this time although I failed to find his death in the church records. Its strange that Francis was withdrawn from the school by his mother Elizabeth Gamble [nee Devis] who was then living at 7 Surrey Square, Kent Road, on June 21st 1822. I was able to glean these records from the school, I can quite believe that the small boy may have run away from the school at sometime, it must have been grim in the boarding schools of those days”.

Place and date of marriage give an “early 1840s” from a paper titled, “The Gamble Family”, received from Caroline in an email dated 23 May 2018.

The paper titled, “The Gamble Family” says that after their marriage [in Humansdorp, Eastern Cape, South Africa}, Francis and Diana, “settled in Port Elizabeth [approx 56 miles to the east] where their eldest son Stephen was born circa 1843”.

Full date of birth, “Francis Blake Gamble 14th April 1810” from Image 5 of the Devis Family Bible sent by Derek Dillon in an email dated 16 March 2018. Derek is the x3-great grandson of Hannah Barlow (b.1759) and her second husband, David Gibson. (Hannah Barlow remarried after the death of first husband Henry Devis b.1750).
