Peter writes, “It's only this year though that I've found my birth father & family, as a direct consequence of my DNA test - two first cousins on his side had also done the test & things moved pretty quickly once they got in touch with me. He was born in Ireland and was only in NZ for 7 years or so from the mid 50s.”
“We were in England for a family wedding last month (in Cornwall, where my niece married an Oliver, but not as it turned out with Cornwall / Devon roots). While there we met two new half brothers, a number of cousins, my 89 year old father, who unfortunately is suffering from dementia, & his wife who particularly given the historic circumstances (they got married within a month or so of my being conceived ... ) was very welcoming. All very surreal, & something that just wouldn't have happened before ready availability of DNA testing”.
