Although this ‘William Alfred Oliver’ is not blood related to Brian of nzolivers that he can establish, Brian is connected by marriages on both his mother’s side and on his father’s side:
1. This William’s grandson Robert Thomas Oliver, (William Alfred Oliver > Charles Oliver > Robert Thomas Oliver) had a wife called, Alberta Lilian Gates. Both Alberta and Brian of nzolivers (through his mother’s side) are both descendant from Joseph Dodson born 1780:

2. The above Robert Thomas Oliver and Alberta Lilian Gates, had a son called Ian George Oliver, who married Isobel Chatterton. Isobel’s father was Keith Walter Chatterton and his father, Walter Chatterton, married Edith Minnie Oliver. Edith’s father was Francis Oliver (https://nzolivers.com/tree/wc01/wc01_125.html). Francis is the brother of my great-grandfather, Samuel Oliver!

“William Alfred Oliver and wife Sarah (1844-1923 b. Sarah Miller, in England) came to New Zealand in 1865 on the “Wild Duck”. William went missing from his family in about 1874 - 1875 - it seems he was incarcerated (for ‘religious extremism’, with his brother Thomas) in a mental institution in Wellington, and later in Hokitika, where he eventually died”.
