Misc. Notes
Name, brother of Elizabeth Ann Langman, from Graeme Kenyon in an email dated 21 September 2020. Graeme discovered that the Nelson and New Plymouth Langman families were related. In a WILL of Richard Langman Snr of Taranaki…where he has a nephew called Richard Langman of Nelson, referred to in the Will:
https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/Delive...t?dps_pid=IE51003721

(Graeme Kenyon’s great grandfather was James George Kenyon b.1861 whose second wife was Ada Oliver b.1864, daughter of Samuel Oliver b.1833. Also, James’ sister, Florence Kenyon, married James William Oliver, son of Charles Oliver b.1843).

In a subsequent email dated 29 September 2020, Graeme ponders:
- Richard Langman (New Plymouth) has a nephew in Nelson in 1891, named Richard.
- Richard Langman of Dovedale [west of Nelson] is the right age, and from Cornwall.
- Could the Dovedale Richard Langman and Elizabeth Ann be siblings?

In this email of 29 September 2020, Graeme includes an newspaper clipping listing the passengers on the ‘DUKE OF PORTLAND’, a ship of 533 tons, that arrived in Auckland 5 July 1855. It includes the names:
“…Richard Longman, Eliza Longman…”
Graeme writes, “Could this be Richard and Elizabeth Ann (Langman spelled Longman) arriving in New Zealand, (they are not Mr and Mrs so must be siblings)”?
“Perhaps following the New Plymouth Langmans from Cornwall, Richard to establish later in Dovedale [west of Nelson] and Elizabeth to marry Reid [and then Francis Oliver] in New Plymouth.

Date and place of marriage, name of wife, occupation, from Graeme Kenyon in an email dated 9 October 2020 - sourced from the Marriage Certificate for Richard Langman and Mary Rose.

Place of birth, year of birth circa 1835 (calculated from age of 94 at time of death, confirmation that is brother of Elizabeth Langman with the same parents (Thomas Langman and Elizabeth Rowe), date and place of death, date and place of burial, been in New Zealand 75 years. Children living at time of death - male age 56, years and two daughters age 49 and 44 years, from Graeme Kenyon in an email dated 9 October 2020 - sourced from the Marriage Certificate for Richard Langman and Mary Rose.

Looking at being in New Zealand 75 years, this would place her immigrating circa 1854, which matches Graeme Kenyon’s thinking that he arrived on the “Duke of Portland’ on 5 July 1855.

Copy of 1841 Census gives age of 4, (and therefore approximate year of birth of 1837), from Graeme Kenyon in email dated 13 October 2020.

The calculations from the Death Certificate (ca 1835), and from the Census (ca 1837) places the approximate year of birth down the middle which is circa 1836.
