Sarah Kay's Comments on
her Father's Research--------------------------------------
Mary Nelson (mum of William James and Anne), we think, was the wife of William James' Dad: William Nelson (senior).
Dad [Tony Kay] thinks this lady was a nee 'Mary Hughe's of Liverpool. They were married circa 1830. Possibly on 7th August 1828 at Chester, or at St Peters, L'pool.
(Ed comment – census records indicate Mary was born in Chester but, at as Tony indicates, there was a William Nelson and Mary Hughes who did get married in St Peters Church, Liverpool on 7th August 1828. William James Nelson was baptised at St Peter’s on 30th August 1835 and it states that his parents were William and Mary. For this reason I think we can be certain that William Nelson and Mary Hughes were his parents).
William Nelson (senior) was likely born 1806. Possibly christened at Neston on 7.12.1806
Dad thinks his father was James Nelson, mariner. Christened 24 February 1782 at Neston, who married Mary Owens of Neston on 12 January 1804.
James Nelson's parents were possibly John Nelson, labourer (maltster) of Great Neston, and "Elizabeth".
I wonder, could this be the same couple as those in the marriage recorded of Elizabeth Mostyn and James Nelson, on 2 April 1768, 14 years prior to the birth of James, recorded on
familysearch.org? I found a number of possible siblings around about this time, with the same-named parents (Elizabeth and James Nelson).
This info is all from the Bishop of Chester's church records, which recorded christenings, burials and marriages. Sadly there were very few other details in these records (i.e. the marriage records do not have dates of births or addresses of those wedded) so there is no actual proof of any of this.
