Name from Brian of nzolivers. Enid was Brian’s great-aunt. ‘Aunty Enid’ was the younger sister of his grandfather, Malcolm Graeme Cox McCaul 1883-1975.

Date and place of birth, Date and place first marriage, date and place of second marriage, date and place of death, place of burial as “Levin” [see further down], from “McCaul Family Scotland” compiled in 1991 by Marcia Barbara (Barbara) McCaul, Canada (b. 1932, d. 2002). Barbara was the great-great grandaughter of Gilbert McCaul (b. 1765) and Janet McFarlan (b. 1770). Brian of nzolivers.com is the great-great-great grandson of Gilbert and Janet.

Barbara writes that Enid’s father:
… left his wife and children in Wellington to go to Australia to seek a better job. He did not return to New Zealand. His two elder children Enid and Graeme helped their mother bring up the younger children.

Occupation information from Kathleen (Kathy) Oliver b. 26 February 1954. Kathy also says, Enid on took up the position again when a widow and in 1943 married Ben Roberts in Wellington.

Brian of nzolivers.com remembered visting “Aunty Enid” in her Levin home.

Enid was awarded an M.B.E. in the 1960 New Year Honours.

In 1965 Enid Roberts wrote the book, “Remembered - From Ploughboy to Parliamentarian, The life and works of the Hon. Ben Roberts, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing 1943-46”. Printed and Published by Masterton Printing Co. Ltd., Lincoln Road, Masterton, New Zealand.

Enid ROBERTS continues to live in Levin, works on her New Zealand womens' research. Awarded M.B.E. in 1960 New Years Honours for service to the community. Sets up the Ben Enid Foundation to provide housing for over seventy-year-old widows and those with homes and gardens too big for them and, a chapel to serve the village and new Horowhenua Hospital.

In the article there is a picture of Enid with a chair. In a telephone call with Ben Roberts’ granddaughter in December 2024, the chair was originally presented to Ben Roberts as a thank you for arranging the wives of chineses gardeners to come out to the Wairarapa in New Zealand to be with their husbands.
