Wedding report from the Wanganui Chronicle 17 May 1924 found in Papers Past in August 2022:
WOMAN’S WORLD
WEDDINGS.
KING—CARREL.
A quiet and pretty wedding was solemnised at the Methodist Church, Hastings, on Easter Monday, when Walter George, third son of Mr and Mrs James King, Frederick Street, Hastings, was married to Thelma Grace, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Carrel, Pakowhai (late of Wanganui). The Rev. F. Copeland officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, looked very dainty in a cream brocaded frock, trimmed with radium lace and silver beads, and wore the usual veil and orange blossoms. She was attended by her niece, Miss Dorothy Menzies, of Wanganui, as bridesmaid, who wore a pretty blue crepe-de-chine frock trimmed with silver beads and hat to match. Both carried handsome shower bouquets, the gifts of Mrs H. Fourneau. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr A. E. King. After the ceremony, the guests were entertained by the bride’s parents at their residence, Pakowhai. After the usual toasts were honoured Mr and Mrs King left by car for the South amidst showers of confetti, the bride wearing a smart nigger brown costume, with hat and shoes to match. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a beautiful rope of pearls, and to the bridesmaid a gold bracelet. The presents, which were very numerous, included the cake, made by the bride’s sister, Mrs Menzies, of Wanganui.
