Additional information from Rachel Frances Oliver born 31 August 1940.
Dates and places of birth and death, and year of marriage from Jenny Smith whose late husband, John Monro Menzies, was the grandson of Telitha Carrel (b. 1885), sister of Maud Oliver (nee Carrel).
Jenny says Samuel arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, with his parents on the "Soukar" on 2 December 1874. Samuel would of been 17 years of age. At the time of the 1861 Census at aged 4, he was living at St Brelade, Jersey, Channel Islands. At the time of the 1871 Census at aged 14, he was living at St Peter, Jersey, Channel Islands.
Baptised in the Roman Catholic Chapel, St Heliers, Jersey, from handwritten note from Brian Carrell, grandson of George Robert Carrel, George being a son of John and Talitha (nee Hutchings) Carroll/Carrel.
Known as Grandpa to Brian’s (of
nzolivers.com) father (Maurice Oliver b.1921).
Death Certificate says cause of death was “Senile Myocarditis”
Preferred name of Sam from Joy Nixon (nee Oliver) b. 1925

There was a good attendance of buyers, and the vendor expressed himself highly pleased with prices realised. Quotations:- Backward dairy cows £10; fair cows £l8, £l8 10s to £l9 6s; good cows £22, £22 10s, to £27; backward dairy heifers £5. £5 10s, £7 17s 6d, £11; yearling heifers £5 15s to £6 weariers £3; young bull £5; s.f. plough £l2; dray £13 10s, A quantity of sundries sold at highest market rates.
