Dax Eric Clayton Lloyd born 25 April 1969 believes her name is Mary and not May?

David Eric Lloyd (born 15 Feb 1943 and Dax’s father) says an article of Mary Wells, “I see that she was born on 31 March 1868”. This date of birth is used here, although Brian Oliver (nzolivers.com) is confused whether her name was Mary or May as nzolivers had it.

Date of death of 24 December 1956 from Clarence (Clarry) George Oliver (b. 1928), although changed here to 24 July 1956 from information in "From Old England to New Zealand, complied by Janet Wells, Fay Bartlett, Barbara and Ian McDonald" lodged at Puke Ariki Museum, New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Brian Oliver of nzolivers.com had Mary’s name as “May”. Brian changed this to Mary after compelling information from Joy (Margaret Joy) Nixon - nee Oliver, daughter of Leslie John Oliver. This confirms what David Lloyd and his son, Dax Lloyd believed.

In information from Joy (Margaret Joy) Nixon - nee Oliver, a hand-written notes says:
“Married by the Rev John Nixon. The parson was very late arriving for the wedding and in some fluster commenced reading from the funeral service and only corrected himself when some person went forward and interrupted him advising him of his error. The bride was very upset. MRW”.

Preferred name of “Polly” from "From Old England to New Zealand, complied by Janet Wells, Fay Bartlett, Barbara and Ian McDonald" lodged at Puke Ariki Museum, New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Name of “Mary” from Birth search on New Zealand BDM website in June 2018:
1868/16418. Oliver, Mary. Mother: Elizabeth. Father: Samuel

Interesting to note that spelling of first name given as “May” as per Marriage search on New Zealand BDM website in June 2018. By adulthood did she prefer to be known as “May”? Or is it a mistake in the marriage registration record?:
