Mathhew and Frances lived in a home with a thatched roof on 6 acres of agricultural land in Church Street, Willoughby, right opposite the Parish Church of St. Helen’s.
This marriage produced a family of eleven children, six sons and five daughters. Several of their children were qualified in their chosen work:
John was a tailor
Mary-Jane dressmaking
Susan cooking
Matthew a carpenter
Charles a miller.
Eight of the children emmigrated to New Zealand from 1875 to 1904:
Matthew and Charles came out in 1875 on the “Collingwood”
Mary-Jane and William Chiffing in 1876 on the “Huronui”.
Mehetable and Elijah Leary and five children in 1879 on the “Fernglen”.
Thomas also with the Leary family in 1879 on the “Fernglen”.
Edward in 1904 on the “Coronthic”.
Susan and two daughters, Elizabeth and Alice, also on the “Coronthic”.
Frances died on 10 th July 1900 at the age of 79 years and is buried at Willoughby cemetery.
