Full date and place of birth, name of parent’s from Sarah Ferguson (nee Churton) in June 2018. Sarah has copy of Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950:
Name: Charles Mc Gregor
Gender: Male

Birth Place: Row, Dunbarton, Scotland
Father: Hugh Mc Gregor
Mother: Janet Galbraith
FHL Film Number: 6035516

Note that the second given name of “Grove” does not appear. It is interesting to note that Charles’ mother travelled to New Zealand after the death of his father and his mother remarried in New Zealand when he was 6 years 5 months old to a “George Grove”. Janet and George Grove had two children born when Charles would have been 11 and 15 years of age respectively. Did he informally ‘adopt’ the surname of his step-father?

Date of death found in June 2018 from Waikumete Cemetery Cremations Records for 1943:
3961 McGREGOR Charles, Park Road, Titirangi, 87 years, retired, died 14.8.1943 cremated 16.8.1943, Scattered 17.8.1943.

Son, Charles was not alive for the 1851 Scotland Census, being born in 1860. However, he should of appeared in the 1861 Census. An extensive search by Brian of nzolivers.com cannot locate a Charles with parents Hugh and Janet. Yet, they were listed as parents in his Birth Details.

The 1861 Scotland Census for Row, Dunbartonshire, Scotland is thus:
Ardencaple Farm House
Janet McGregor, Head, 29, Farmers Widow, born: Drymen, Stirlingshire [Places year of birth at circa 1832]
Elizabeth McGregor, 12 [Places year of birth at circa 1849]
Grace McGregor, 11 [Places year of birth at circa 1850]
Hugh McGregor, 9 [Places year of birth at circa 1852]
Jane McGregor, 8 [Places year of birth at circa 1853]
Christina McGregor, 5 [Places year of birth at circa 1856]
BRIAN’S NOTE: Christina is where Charles should be? Is this the same person? Brian of nzolivers.com could not access the original hand-written copy - only a transcript. Was a mistake made during interpretation of the transcript?
