Information from Cynthia Glover (nee Coleman), whose great-great-grandfather was William Samuel Allen b.1843. (William's sister, Martha Allen, married Charles Oliver, youngest son of James and Ruth Oliver).
Cynthia writes that Alexander and Catherine had seven children:

2. Alexander, d. 1695
3. Captain Philip, killed in action Minorca 1708
4. Colonel Edward, killed in action 1711
5. William, died young
6. Catherine, died young
7. Mary, d.1762, m. 1707 Viscount Fane

He was the youngest son of Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield by his second wife Anne, daughter of John 'Lusty' Pakington. He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford, graduating in 1654".
