In an email dated 13 September 2020 from non-relative Paul Betteridge, Paul writes that rather than the marriage between “Joseph Dodson” and “Isabella Reid” being held on the 14 June 1802 at Kendal, Westmorland, North-West England it is more likely a marriage between “Joseph Dodson” and a “Isabella Reed” that took place on the 28 April 1807 at the church of St John, Bedminster, near Bristol, South-West England is a more likely fit.

Paul Betteridge reasons are:
- the marriage took place in a part of the country where the parties seem to have lived
- the marriage took place shortly before (rather than 5 years before) the birth of their first (known) child
- that first child was born in Bristol
- in the 1871 census, when Isabella was living in Oxford with her son Charles Francis Dodson, her birthplace was recorded as "Bristol, Somerset"

Brian of nzolivers ordered the Marriage Certificate of Joseph and Isabella’s son, Henry Dodson in the hope that it would show his parents including the spelling of his mother’s maiden name (Reid or Reed). However, this Marriage Certificate, received from New Zealand BDM on 18 September 2020, did not name the parents.

Brian of nzolivers is pondering whether to order the death certicate of son Joseph Dodson as that is more likely to name the parents. Meanwhile, Brian has researched and considers Paul Betteridge record of marriage is more likely to be correct and has changed date and place marriage details to 28 April 1807 at St John, Bedminster, near Bristol, England.

Maiden name of “Read” from Death Certificate of son, Henry Dodson who died 8th May 1892. The Death Certificate received in June 2021.
