Denise Moody writes in the 16 October 2017 email:
Ernie’s adopted mother, “Annie Moody died in 1919 but my husband remembers his Grandfather Arthur Moody, he died when Robin was about 8”.
“… a baby born James Campbell Lumsden Robertson to Gertrude Eleanor Robertson from Dunedin on 9th September 1913”
Gertrude Eleanor Robertson, “was named after her Mother and would have been 26 and unmarried when Ernie was born, she had him in Wanganui, must have stayed there and married Lionel Ernest Carrel in 1915”.
In an email dated 20 July 2018 from Denise Moody, she writes:
“Ernie [Ernest] was born 9th September 1913 but never started school in Dunedin until October 1919 [aged 6]. Was that because he was in Whanganui with his Mother? [His mother Gertrude Eleanor Roberston died about a year earlier on 24 November 1918]. When he did start school in Dunedin it just says his name is Ernie Moodie (spelt wrong) and they had his birth date as 9/9/1913 then changed it to 9/6/1913 and his guardian as Mrs Rackley. We now know the Rackleys were friends of the Moodys”.
“Arthur Moody's de facto wife Annie Phelan Moody died on 10th July 1919 of TB so we assume this is why Mrs Rackley had Ernie because Arthur would have to work, no Social Welfare in those days”.
“Annie and Arthur Moody lived at 81 Neidpath Road, Mornington and Earl and Gertrude Robertson Snr lived at 81a Neidpath Road, Mornington, maybe this is the reason the Moodys had Ernie, was he sent home when his Mother died as Eileen and Noel [Carrel] were apparently bought up by their Grandparents [John Charles Thomas and Eliza Anne, nee Paul, CARREL]”.
“We also think Annie Moody took in foster children as we found an article in Papers Past that mentions her as having foster children. As far as we know Ernie was never adopted”.
“Ernie [Ernest] was in the Air Force in Wigram”.
