Place of birth, year of death from Denise Moody in the 16 October 2017 email.

Denise Moody writes in the 16 October 2017 email:
“… a baby born James Campbell Lumsden Robertson to Gertrude Eleanor Robertson from Dunedin on 9th September 1913”
Gertrude Eleanor Robertson, “was named after her Mother and would have been 26 and unmarried when Ernie was born, she had him in Wanganui, must have stayed there and married Lionel Ernest Carrel in 1915, they had Eileen May in 1916 and a son Noel Ernest Robertson Carrel born in 1918 and Gertrude died the same year and they are buried together in Wanganui. Noel was killed in 1942 he was in the air force”.

Place of burial from Denise Moody in an email dated 22 October 2017. (Denise is the wife of Robin Moody. Robin’s father, Ernest Arthur Moody, was adopted. Ernest was born “James Campbell Lumsden ROBERTSON”, his biological mother being Gertrude Eleanor ROBERTSON b.1887. Gertrude later married Lionel Ernest Carrel b. 1884).

From an official birth search on New Zealand BDM website in May 2018:
1887/3851. Robertson, Gertrude Eleanor. Mother: Gertrude Eleanor. Father: Earl Macintosh

Full date of birth from further searching on BDM Search by incrementally changing the date range for the birth, Brian of nzolivers has determined date of birth as 10 March 1887.

Country of marriage from Marriage search on New Zealand BDM website in June 2018:
1915/6866. Bride: Gertrude Eleanor Robertson. Groom: Lionel Ernest Carrel

Date of burial of 26 November 1918 from Search of Aramoho Cemetery online.

Brian of nzolivers notes that Gertrude’s son Noel, was born four days earlier than her burial. Noel was born on 22 November 1918. Did Gertrude die in childbirth? Brian makes month/year of death here as November 1918.

An initial search on the New Zealand BDM website in July 2018 came up blank. However, being creative with the spelling of her married name, came up with the following:
1918/11199. Correl, Gertrude Eleanor, died age 32Y

Further refining the BDM Search by incrementally changing the date range for the death, Brian of nzolivers has determined date of death as 24 November 1918. This is two days after her baby Noel was born.

In an email from Denise Robertson dated 19 July 2018, Denise writes, “I was told Gertrude died shortly after Noel was born result of the flu aged 32. That's why children were bought up by grandparents [John Charles Thomas and Eliza Anne, nee Paul, CARREL] and as James [later renamed Ernest Arthur Moody] was not a child of Lionel’s, he was sent back to Dunedin and was fostered”.
Denise Robertson’s husband is Murray Robertson and is the grandson of John Earl Robertson b. 1883. John Earl Robertson was the brother of Gertrude Eleanor who married Lionel Ernest Carrel.

Full date of marriage to Lionel from Denise Moody in an email dated 20 July 2018.

In the email dated 20 July 2018 from Denise Moody, “…we now know that [brother] Earl Robertson Jnr was in Whanganui with Gertrude when she had [baby] Ernie… I think… Gertrude was going to Whanganui to have Ernie and [brother] Earl went with her. One of them would have to work and it wouldn't have been Gertrude so I assume Earl would have got a job and kept them both. Earl went back to Dunedin but Gertrude didn’t. Now, did Earl bring baby Ernie back with him or not, we may never know.”

Brian of nzolivers notes that Gertrude’s baby Ernest (Ernie) was born on 9 Sep 1913. Therefore brother Earl would have been 18 years of age when they moved from Dunedin to Wanganui.

In the email dated 20 July 2018 from Denise Moody, she goes on to say:
“Ernie was born 9th September 1913 but never started school in Dunedin until October 1919 [aged 6]. Was that because he was in Whanganui with his Mother?[His mother Gertrude Eleanor Roberston died about a year earlier on 24 November 1918]. When he did start school in Dunedin it just says his name is Ernie Moodie (spelt wrong) and they had his birth date as 9/9/1913 then changed it to 9/6/1913 and his guardian as Mrs Rackley. We now know the Rackleys were friends of the Moodys”.
“Arthur Moody's de facto wife Annie Phelan Moody died on 10th July 1919 of TB so we assume this is why Mrs Rackley had Ernie because Arthur would have to work, no Social Welfare in those days”.

In a followup email date 22 July 2018, Devise Moody writes:
“Something else Denise [Robinson] found, Gertrude Robertson went to Night School when she was about 17, she took English, Sewing, Homemaking I think it was called and maybe cooking as well”.

Place of birth changed from Wanganui to Dunedin as per telephone conversation with Denise Moody on 5 April 2019.
