Departed 25 March 1841 with wife and two boys for New Zealand aboard the ‘Amelia Thompson, the second settler ship to New Plymouth. Arrived on the 3 September 1841:
Hoskin, Arthur. Age 29. Occupation Cooper & Sawyer.
Hoskin, Eliza. Age 27
Hoskin, William. Age 8.
Hoskin, Arthur. Age 1
Cooper: Made barrels from wooden strips held together by metal hoops.
Sawyer: Used a saw to cut wood.
Rosemary is the granddaughter of Florence Minnie Menzies (nee Borthwick) and Edward Sutherland Menzies. Edward's brother, Ronald Monro Menzies, married Telitha Mary Carrel, the sister Brian of 'nzolivers' grandmother, Maud Carrel.
Arthur’s first cousin, Elizabeth Jury (nee Hoskin), emigrated to New Zealand on the first settler ship, the ‘William Bryan’, arriving on the 31 March 1841.
There was also a “Josias Hoskin”, occupation shoemaker, with wife Elizabeth on the same voyage to New Plymouth on the ‘Amelia Thompson’. Was Josias this Arthur’s younger brother?
