“McKoy. On September 3rd 1908 at Mr McGonagle’s residence, St Aubyn Street Mary Ann - relict of the late P. McKoy of Titorangi aged 82 years. Private Interment”.
[Source unknown]

Approximate year of marriage of 1850 from below:

“The late Mrs McKoy who was buried in St. Mary's yesterday came to New Plymouth with her father Mr James Oliver and family by the Amelia Thompson arriving here on September 3rd, 1841. She was born in Devonshire in 1826 and was therefore 82 years of age.
For seven years she was in the service of the late Captain King and it was while a member of his household that she made the first cheese manufactured in Taranaki and also the first barrel of salt butter exported from the province.
Afterwards she was a lady's maid to Mrs Page wife of Captain Page of the Imperial Army and while in that capacity she assisted in dressing three ladies for what was probably the first fancy dress ball ever held in Auckland.
Returning to Taranaki she married about 1850 Mr P. McKoy of the 58th regiment who was comrade in arms to Colonel Strapp. During the first Maori Wars Mrs McKoy went with many other refugees to Nelson.
In 1897 she went with her husband to Tikorangi where he had been awarded a grant of land and there they resided until Mr McKoy died on 30 August 1895. Mrs McKoy then lived in Waitara for about a year afterwards coming to New Plymouth where she has resided ever since with her eldest daughter Mrs McGonagle.
For the last five years she has been an invalid. It will thus be seen that Mrs McKoy has borne in full measure the hest and burden of the pioneering days and she leaves behind her to mourn their loss a family of 4 sons and 7 daughters besides 57 grandchildren and 21 great-grand children.
The sons are Mr James McKoy of Tongaporutu, Mr William McKoy of New Plymouth, Mr Charles McKoy of Waitara and Mr Hugh McKoy of Normanby, while the daughters are Mrs McGonagle, Mrs W. Jury of New Plymouth, Mrs T.G. Billing of Rahotu, Mrs C. Crocker of Auckland, Miss Ada McKoy and Mrs Feltham of Dunedin”.

[Comment by Brian Oliver: Captain Henry King was principal agent, Chief Commissioner, of the Plymouth Company of New Zealand and sailed, as a passenger with his wife and son, on the same voyage as Mary Ann Oliver on the Amelia Thompson].

Graeme Kenyon, whose great grandfather was James George Kenyon b.1861 (whose second wife was Ada Oliver b.1864, daughter of Samuel Oliver b.1833 AND whose whose sister, Florence Kenyon, married James William Oliver, son of Charles Oliver Oliver b.1843) writes:
“In 1863 the McKoy’s house at Gill Street New Plymouth burned down. There was a lengthy inquest in which Mary Ann, her father James Oliver and her husband Patrick McKoy gave evidence. It is possible the fire was caused accidentally by a match dropping through a crack in the floor. But this was not certain. The verdict was given as, “cause unknown”. A lengthy description is given in the Taranaki Herald of 29 June 1867.

Photo of headstone from Marlene Heise in an email dated 11 July 2018. Marlene is the great-great granddaughter of this Mary Ann Oliver b1836. Marlene is the grand-daughter of Lewis Sydney McKoy b 1883.

Marlene writes that the headstone is:
In the grounds of Taranaki Cathedral, New Plymouth, Taranaki. When they put the road through the cathedral grounds, a car went out of control and damaged headstone. It sat in garage of archdeacon for many years”.
My aunt Weavers Sydney Martin (nee McKoy) brought it to my attention when I was a teenager not knowing it was her great-grandmother”.
I got headstone restored about four years ago”.

Brian of nzolivers.com found, on a birth search on New Zealand BDM website in October 2018, only 13 of the 17 children.
Children missing are the first two born (James McKoy b.1852 d.1924 and Mary Ann McKoy b.1852 d.1938), most likely because it was not compulsory to register a birth before 1858. And, for some reason, no record could be found for the twins ‘Annabella McKoy’ (the 2nd b.1861 d.1864 and ‘Elizabeth Jane McKoy’ b.1861 d.1880.
Records found are:
