“Patrick McKoy who came to NZ in 1843 with the 74th Foot Regiment who I believe were discharged ex convicts from Australia. At the end of his time with the regiment he was given a parcel of land in Taranaki so that is possibly why [grandson] Francis and [Francis’ wife] Ada settled in Waitara – although I believe the land was no longer in the family”.
