A WITNESS CONGRATULATED.
BREACH OF PROBATION TERM.
Uncorroborated evidence established a charge of indecency against John Thomas Harold Jones, aged 19, stonemason, who pleaded not guilty in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.
The chief witness, a young woman, said she reported tho matter to the police. Jones was in Middleton Road, Remuera, when she saw him first, but when he was accosted by a policeman in Broadway, Newmarket, it was some little time later. Mistaken identity was accused's defence. "I was never in Middleton Road," he said.
In holding Jones guilty, the magistrate convicted him and ordered him to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.

Pleading not guilty, at the Police Court this morning, to a charge of stealing goods valued at 15/10 belonging to some person unknown, and to an alternative charge of receiving, John Thomas Harold Jones (22), a stonemason, said he did not knew where he got the goods from.
"I shouldn't wonder at that, for he is supposed to have had 26 beers," said Detective Sergeant Kelly, who asked for a remand until next Monday.
Accused was remanded on bail.

ALLEGATIONS OF THEFT
EARLY MORNING ARREST
A charge of stealing provision*, tobacco and a bathing costume, of a total value of 15s 10d, the property of some person or persons unknown, was denied in the Police Court yesterday by John Thomas Harold Jones, aged 22, stonemason (Mr. Dickson).
Detective-Sergeant Kelly stated that at an early hour on May 24 accused was accosted by a constable in Pitt Street. He could not give a satisfactory explanation as to where he had obtained a number of unwrapped articles found in his possession. lie told the constable that with seven other young men he had been to a farmhouse in Mangere, where he had consumed a considerable quantity of liquor.
The arresting constable stated that when accused was taken into custody he was not intoxicated. With the exception of the bathing costume, all the articles in question were new. "He is young so I will adjourn the case for six months on condition that he takes out a prohibition order," said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt.

INDECENT LANGUAGE
MAN SENT TO PRISON "A MENACE TO WOMEN"
"The evidence leads me to suppose that you are a menace to decent women in the streets, and I do not think you are the sort of man who should be at liberty," said, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when John Thomas Harold Jones, a young man appearing on summons, admitted six charges of using indecent language, and three charges of using insulting language.
Senior-Detective Hall said complaints had been received by the police that a man on a bicycle was making himself a ' nuisance in the Grafton district by : using indecent language to women. Accused was apprehended by Detectives Aplin and Brown, who were patrolling i the district in a motor-car, and be admitted he was the man who had been using indecent language.
Mr. Hall added that accused had been offending in this manner for a period of two years, his practice being to address offensive remarks to every woman he passed on his bicycle. On one occasion in November he was followed by Detective Brown, but made his escape.
Accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on one charge, and, on the other charges, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months' of his discharge from prison.

DIVORCE GRANTED
A decree nisi was granted to-day bv Mr. Justice Fair in an undefended divorce petition, John Thomas Harold Jones (Mr. Cleal) v. Jean Elizabeth Jones, on the ground of separation by mutual agreement for more, than three years.
