A 1945 marriage record was found from search on New Zealand BDM website in June 2023:
1945/2928. Bride: Hazel Alice McGinn. Groom: Charles Ernest Oliver

In an email dated 29 December 2023, Winsome Griffin questions whether, "Charles Ernest Oliver remarried on 21 February 1945 to Hazel Alice McGinn". Winsome Griffin (nee Guilford) is the granddaughter of Francis Charles Guilford (1876-1961) whose second wife, Laura Elizabeth Wood, was first married to this Charles Ernest Oliver, grandson of James (1805-1886) and Ruth (nee Batten) Oliver.

In a followup email dated 31 December 2023, Winsome proves there were two Charles Ernest Oliver, our one here, and another who married Hazel Alice McGinn. The second Charles was a labourer in Te Kuiti, New Zealand at the time of marriage. Winsome provided references to the Wills/Probate for each Charles Ernest Oliver. See PDF in media section here for evidence.

THEREFORE, our Charles Ernest Oliver remained married to Laura Elizabeth Wood right up to his death. Laura is sole executrix in Charles’ Will dated 17 January 1939 with Probate 21 March 1951 where Laura has an affidavit to lead grant of Probate to herself as sole executrix SWORN at New Plymouth, New Zealand.

So, this leads us to - who is the second Charles Ernest Oliver and, is he related? Winsome Griffin in the 31 December 2023 email says the second Charles, “was born in 1919 to Charles and Enid Trewhella Oliver”.

Checking the New Zealand BDM website in January 2024, Brian of nzolivers found the date of birth for the second Charles (Reg. 1919/11103) was 25 April 1919. Again, searching the New Zealand BDM website for a marriage of parents Charles and Enid, Brian found Enid’s maiden name was “Watkins” and they married (Reg. 1917/2046) on Christmas Day, 25 January 1917. This sceond Charles died 20 April 1942 accordingly to Waverly Headstone records and Enid remarried in 1948, to Harry Edwin Holtham (Reg. 1948/15779). Further online research in January 2024 shows that the second Charles Ernest Oliver is not related.
