Misc. Notes
Name, date and country of birth, date of death of 6 February 1926, from Muriel Leo’s (nee Oliver, 1917-1998) Family Tree.

Dax Eric Clayton Lloyd born 1969 claims date of death as 4 February 1926.

Richard Leigh Andrews (born 1947) in an email to Brian Oliver (born 1950) wrote on 17 May 2007:

Alice Bertha Andrews nee Oliver being my grandmother. I never met her sadly as she died well before I was born, in 1938 from memory, and is buried in Hawera with her husband John Willie Andrews. He died in 1962. (He actually married again to a widow, they had no children being both 60 odd).

Their only living child is Neil [Ernest] Andrews, who lives in Waitara, and turned 90 in April. He never married, and thus has become (in my view) slightly eccentric, but is still very "sharp", unfortunately though he does not like to talk about his family past all that much. I do call in and see him every time I go down to Taranaki, he likes to discuss the war, and has many interesting tales to tell about Greece, Crete, the Western Desert, and being a POW (a couple of his photos taken in Crete during the fighting there were shown in the recent Anzac day TV1 programs, and are also on display in the War museum at Waiouru.

I do remember him saying about his maternal grandfather (which would have been FRANCIS OLIVER) that he was typical Victorian grandfather type, stern, forbidding and not given to talking to small children, though he did remember being given sixpence by him once.

It would appear that your great grandfather Samuel and my great grandfather Francis were brothers. Interesting to see that your father was born in Gonville, my uncle Neil was talking about going to primary school there last year, he said he hated it, and asked his mother to shift him to another school, which she did. At the time my grandfather John Willie had a milk round and shop there.

Graeme Kenyon, whose great grandfather was James George Kenyon b.1861 (whose second wife was Ada Oliver b.1864, daughter of Samuel Oliver b.1833) writes that Francis:
“joined the Taranaki Rifle Volunteers and was in action at Waireka (March 1860) and also Mahoetahi (November 1860). (Stowers 2012).

Graeme goes on to write that, “from a few clippings of the Taranaki Herald we can infer that Francis was farming at Mangorei Road after the war [Maori], and was still there (on school committee) in 1906.

From Brian (of notes that in 1875 the family farm in Mangorei Road (nearly 14 km from New Plymouth) was transferred to Francis and remained in Oliver possession until 1917.

Brian of has posted two photos here for Francis Oliver. Although both are sporting a full beard, looking at the shape of the face and eyebrows, they appear to be two different persons. If you can help with the correct identication please contact Brian.
