Misc. Notes
Name from Muriel Leo’s (nee Oliver, 1917-1998) Family Tree.
Further information from Sharon Gay McKoy, daughter of Charles here.
Sharon corrected known name of “Todd” to “Tod” and says was known as Tod in his adult life. Sharon also says when Charles was very young he was also known as, “Billy”.
Sharon says Charles was an only child and was cremated.
Sharon says her Dad’s ashes are buried at Wanganui Crematorium where there is also a headstone.
He was enlisted for a short time, and was in Japan after the war. He was a pilot.
Sharon understands that at some point of his working life he also did painting and paper hanging prior to training to become a teacher. He taught for a short time at Ohakune then for about 17 years at Wanganui East Primary School before moving into secondary teaching at Wanganui Boys College where he specialised in Maths and English. He actually had a heart attack on his way home from school in the main street of Wanganui on the day he died.
Charles was a heavy smoker but kept “fit” walking or biking almost everywhere as he did not drive. When Sharon was 2 years old he had some kind of “turn” that resulted in a lumber puncture being done and left him on medication for the rest of his days and not able to fly or drive.
Diane Kerr (Canada) writes an email on 14 May 2013 on behalf of her cousin, Roger (UK). Roger’s great aunt is Ada Edith Osborne. Ada married Francis Otto McKoy. Roger had written:
“Diane, speaking of New Zealand, my g.aunt Ada Edith Osborne, b. 1894 Stoke Prior, emigrated there, not sure when, she married Francis Ottis McKoy, wondered if you could find them living there? I was always told they had two sons who became school teachers, I know they were there during WW2, when I lived with nanny Osborne at Malvern they used to send food parcels over. Roger.”
Diane Kerr writes, “I have Ancestry, and did find Ada and Francis and have sent Roger that info, but could not sort out the children through the Rolls, other than a child I believe to be theirs:
