Apia Wedding.
The wedding of Miss Dorothy Braisby to Mr R. Low was solemnised at the Apia Protestant Church by Rev. H. Perkins assisted by Bishop Kempthorne on Christmas Eve, the 24th December, 1929, at 7.30 p.m.
Mr Braisby looked justly proud as he walked up the aisle with the bride, his daughter, who looked the happiest and most charming bride Apia has seen for some time. She was beautifully dressed in white georgette and tulle and wore the usual veil with orange blossoms. She was attended by Miss R. Broadhouse, as bridesmaid, who was daintily dressed in pale pink georgette trimmed with sequins. The groomsman was attended by his cousin, Mr H. Cautrell, as best man.
The church was prettily decorated with white flowers and greenery and the wedding bell, made by the Samoan matron of the Hospital, which hung over the bride and bridegroom's heads when they knelt at the altar looked very pretty.
After the ceremony, which was carried out with little show of nervousness, the bridal party left for the bride's home; first taking a run to Mulinu'u. The. large number of friends assembled at the church then proceeded to Vaiala to the bride's parents' residence where a reception was held; about 50 people were present among whom were His Excellency the Administrator Col. S. S. Allen and Dr. Allen and Chief Judge and Mrs Luxford.
As the bride and bridegroom arrived from their first drive after wedlock, they were accorded three hearty cheers as they walked up to the spacious verandah which was beautifully decorated with bunting.
Dancing and singing were indulged is until 10 p.m. when supper was announced and a beautiful three-tier wedding cake was highly commented upon. Remarks suitable for the occasion were made after which "For they are jolly good fellows" was heartily sung and the groomsman, Mr Low, in response, thanked the many friends for their attendance and the many nice presents and wished them all a Merry Xmas.
Directly alter supper the charming couple were noticed leaving so another three hearty cheers were given to send them on their honeymoon to Vaea Villa and it is understood they will leave Apia by the next February "Tofua."
The party continued dancing to a late hour and a most enjoyable evening was spent.
All who know this happy couple wish them the very best of good luck and happiness in their new venture. Mann's Orchestra supplied the music and are to be congratulated on their performance.
