Misc. Notes
Name (Isabella Young), maiden name (Davidson) from marriage record of son John received from NZ BDM in April 2019. Brian of nzolivers notes no first given name is given)?
No record of marriage could be found on the New Zealand BDM website as at April 2019.
Marriage found on New Zealand marriage index 1840-1937:
Name: Isabella Davidson
Marriage Year: 1875
Marriage Place: New Zealand
Spouse: John Young
Folio Number: 392
A further search on New Zealand BDM website in April 2019 reveals the online record has Isabella’s maiden name spelt wrong:
1875/2991. Bride: Isabella Dawson. Groom: John Young
Full date of marriage of 15 March 1875 from further searching in April 2019 on BDM Search by incrementally changing the date range for the marriage.
Date and place of death found in Napier Courthouse Death Register for 1885, Entry 2300:
19 Mar d Nap YOUNG Bella Davidson 30 yrs b Kerkenhulloch Scotland In NZ 10 yrs m Nap a 28 yrs to John YOUNG 2 M 1 F
From above, estimate year of birth circa 1855.
Children from
marriage between a John Young and a Bella as found on NZ Birth search in April 2019:
1878/2673. Young, Margaret Jane. Mother: Bella. Father: John [Born 4 February 1878]
1879/13644. Young, Angus. Mother: Bella. Father: John [Born 10 June 1879]
1880/3583. Young, Isabella. Mother: Bella. Father: John [Born 23 February 1880]
1881/11981. Young, John. Mother: Bella. Father: John [Born 18 October 1881]
1882/19525. Young, John. Mother: Bella. Father: John [Born 17 February 1882]
Brian of nzolivers notes that two of the births happen within a nine month period. Also, on the death record of Bella here, there were living only 2 males and 1 female living at the time. Brian cannot find any of the above dying before mother Bella’s death. Therefore two of the child may not be from this marriage to John. Brian surmises the following are their children:
Male 1:
Angus Young [only male left after John Young already in tree]
Male 2:
John Young [not sure which one as year of birth for John has already been determined as circa 1882.
Female: Either
Margaret Jane Young or
Isabella Young?
Brian of nzolivers notes that earlier above, in the 1911 Electoral Roll for Napier for John Young, and the 1914 Electoral General Roll for Napier, there was an Isabella Young who was a spinster. Brian assumes this is their daughter. Therefore, Brian is
going with Isabella as the daughter.
Year of birth given as 1847 (and not 1855 as estimated from age at death in the court record earlier), date of death confirmed, place of burial, from Find A Grave website found in April 2019:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/188227914/isabella-youngIsabella (nee Davidson) Young
Birth: 1847, Scotland
Death: 19 Mar 1885 (aged 37–38), Napier City, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Burial: Old Napier Cemetery, Napier, Napier City, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Plot: SW Block 4 plot 1065
Memorial ID: 188227914
Looking at the year of birth, the court record does say Isabella died aged 30 years. However, it also says she was aged 28 when married. We know Isabella married in 1875. Based on this, she would of been born circa 1847. Therefore, Brian of nzolivers will use this year. The inscription on Isabella’s headstone also confirms this year of birth as circa 1847 for it reads that she was aged 38 years when she died.
The three children listed in “The Young Family” [Old Record Scan Doc] received from Paul Young attached to an email dated 29 July 2020:
Angus, born 10 June 1879
John, born23 October 1881
Elisabeth, born 18 November 1884
Paul Young is the great-grandson of John Young (1845-1932).
Brian of nzolivers does not have
Elisabeth listed as a third child. Rather, he has an “Isabella”?
Checking with the NZ BDM, there are two Elizabeth’s listed:
1883/16791. Young, Elizabeth. Mother: Isabella. Father: John [Born 23 November 1883]
1884/13094. Young, Mary Elizabeth. Mother: Isabella. Father: John [Born 10 March 1884]
Neither fully matches?
Place of marriage from Death Certificate of John Young received from Paul Young attached to an email dated 29 July 2020. Paul is the great-grandson of John Young (1845-1932).
