Marriage Certificate has her name as “Janet Higgie”, date of marriage of 16 July 1862, place of marriage “in the house of Thos, Higgie Esq. Blink bonny”, Samuel’s occupation as “Carpenter”.

Dax says Janet (Jessie Pollock) Higgie’s death certificate says she was buried in the Wanganui Old Cemetery, on 5 December 1891

Source of Name: In April 2023, Brian of nzolivers (great-grandson of this Jessie Higgie) looked more closely at the passenger list of the barque ‘Olympus’, the ship her parents Thomas and wife Mary sailed to New Zealand. They left London on the 9th December 1840 and arrived in Port Nicholson on the 20th April 1841. Jessie was to be born in Wellington in 1842, and was the first daughter born.
Now, on the passenger list was a “Janet Pollock, Housemaid, age 30 years”.
The name ‘Pollock’ is an unusual name and Brian is thinking this is the woman his great-grandmother was named after.
