Brian of nzolivers thought that Walter’s father may be “John Vine Chatterton”. This is as per an email from Kaye Smith (nee Chatterton) on 19 January 2011, where she wrote:
“
I am trying to trace Walter Chatterton’s details - I believe he is John Vine Chatterton but that is all I know at this stage. I don't suppose you have any more information on this”?Kaye Smith (nee Chatterton) is the great-granddaughter of Edith Minnie (Minnie) Oliver b. 1873.
In May 2020 Brian of nzolivers has determined through extensive research, triggered by correspondence with Joshua Keijsers in April 2020, that this John Vine Chatterton is not the father of Walter Chatterton. Brian has determined, the parent’s of Walter are “
Arthur Chatterton” and “
Mary Ann Paulucci” that are already in ‘The Tree’ as the parents of Annie Chatterton. This has been corrected here.
Joshua Keijsers is the x2 great grandson of Walter and Edith Minnie (nee Oliver) Chatterton through their daughter Beryl Minnie May Chatterton, and in turn her son Lindsay Jack Martin, and onwards.
Walter is connected to the Olivers through his wife Minnie Oliver, daughter of Francis Oliver.
And, Walter is connected to the Olivers through his sister Annie Chatterton. Annie Chatterton married Percy McGonagle whose mother was ‘Polly’ (Mary Ann) McKoy. Polly was the daughter of Mary Ann Oliver. Mary Ann Oliver is the sister of Francis Oliver!
Place of birth and death, place of marriage, date of burial, from Joshua Keijsers’ Family Tree as at May 2020.
Joshua says that Walter, “arrived in New Zealand on the "Halcyon" in September 1875, aged 5 years old”.
The 'Halcione' departed London/Gravesend 25 May 1875 under the command of Capt. J.E. Croker. The ship arrived at the New Plymouth roadstead on 2nd September 1875. On the morning of the 3rd September some of the passengers were rowed to shore, rough conditions prevented all the passengers being disembarked and they were taken on to Wellington and returned to New Plymouth by the coastal ship Taranaki on the 9th September 1875.
