Peter Horneman advised Brian of nzolivers.com in 2/3 May 2017, that Morton out to New Zealand with his parents on the barque ‘Slains Castle’. They left Gravesend on the 22nd July 1852 and arrived at Otago on the 9th November 1852, after a good passage of 108 days. They arrived in Nelson on 3rd January 1853.

(Peter Horneman is the grandson of this Morton Brandt Reid Horneman.
Peter is also descendant from the Hornemans on Morton’s sister’s side. The sister was Emma Caroline Horneman, who married Henry Gosling Clark. Emma and Henry’s son was Morton Reigels Stowe Clark and he had a daughter Cora Clark. Cora is Peter’s mother)!

Notes, written by Frederick Edward Horneman in his Bible, were received in an email dated 20 May 2017 from Julie Bourke and include:

Our Son Morton Brandt Reid Horneman was born at No 2 Holland Street South side Clapham Road, Sunday the 14 July 1844 at ΒΌ before 5 in the afternoon, in the Parish of Lambeth Surrey. He was christened on the 13th of June 1845 by the Revd Charlton Lane at St Marks Church Kennington (& registered 15 August 1844).
His Godfathers were
1. Emanuel Henry Brandt Esq re Merch of London.

2. George Reid Esq Merchant of London

His Godmother was

He is named Morton, after his father’s friend Morton Pitt Sweedland Esq, third son of the late Sir Christopher Sweedland of the Isle of Wight, and Brandt & Reid after his Godfathers.

Morton Pitt Sweedland, was so named after Sir Christopher’s valued friend Morton Pitt Esqre M.P. for the County of Dorsetshire.

Note: Frederick Edward Hornemand his father, his mothers mother was Elizabeth Devis nee Tippler, possibly William Tippler was an Uncle, Grandmother Horneman Mrs Jane Horneman/ Hammond, widow of Henry Horneman, Counsul General. Axelina Paulina Horneman Frederick’s youngest sister.
Sweedland family seemed to of been friends with the Horneman family and the Devis family, a number of the Sweedland family members were sponsors to Henry and Elizabeth Devis’s children.
